Happy Fourth

Yes a Happy 4th of July to the 'Murrican readership - when you finally get tired of this Independence thing, you're welcome back any time, d'ya hear? ;)

And a trivia teaser that leapt to my eye today:

In which film poster was Audrey Hepburn depicted holding a brace and bit?

  1. i don't knwo the answer to your brain teaser, but I owuld love to see the poster, because my Mum used to be someone that advertisers used in the 1950s to do 'fake' Audrey hepburn pictures if hollywood hadn't sent the right ones out to use in the cinemas and other advertising!!!

  2. Good question, Alf. A better one, though, would be: What else is in the tool tote? I'm pretty sure I can see a hacksaw and, maybe, a crowbar, but can't identify the other object or two.

Do you have said poster, or in what way did this leap to your eye?

  5. Hi Alf,

As a loyal American fan, I say 'thank you very much!!' Also greatly enjoyed your account of your recent travel to England (which is where I thought you were located in the first place). Travel writing becomes you, and I hope more travel is in the offing!

    Warm wishes from the colonies,

    Wiley

  6. Jeremy, what an exceedingly cool bit of family history; excellent.

    Pete, see post above.

Anon., I do hope you knew it and didn't feel obliged to go through Ms Hepburn's entire back catalogue...!

Wiley, while technically Cornwall is classed as part of England it has a long history of being either a) an independant kingdom, or b) wanting to be one again - more than a few Cornishmen and women would object to being told they live in England and there's a general feeling Cornwall should be given separate status like Wales. As an Englishwoman I can tell you I definitely feel like I'm living in exile sometimes... ;)
