SketchUp Skeleton

In the words of Rolf "Tie Me Kangeroo Down" Harris; Can you tell what it is yet?

Not at all sure I'm a natural user of SketchUp to be honest, but it seems to be such a useful tool I really must get to grips with it. This is my second attempt and it definitely came together better than the first, but I'm sure I'm doing things the hard way. My attempt at a saw handle went fine up until the point I thought about trying to round the edges. My brain just whimpered a bit and shut down. But blocky isn't necessary bad, is it...? Where's the virtual rasp, eh? That's what I need; it'd be a piece of cake then.

Never mind, it's still the easiest way of making the lamb's tongue decoration that I've found yet... Of course I have absolutely zero excuse for spending my time drawing virtual saw handles, or even whole saws. But it is rather addictive in a strange aaaargh-why-on-earth-did-it-do-that and where's-that-line-gone-oh-rissoles sort of way. Maybe I should draw a brick wall to bang my head against next?

  1. Rounded corners - you need the Follow-Me tool. Mwaaaahhhaaahaaaahaaa.
If you want to try it in company, bring the model on CD to Philly's, and I'll bring my laptop.

  2. Why, it's the Seaton chest...

Good work on the tenon saw handle. Looks like a blank after being bandsawn and smoothed on the spindle sander!

    Good work, Alf.

    Take care, Mike

  3. Nick, you know the "aaaargh-why-on-earth-did-it-do-that" comment? That was when I tried the Follow Me tool... A misnomer if ever there was one. Do I want to try it in company? What, and become the cabaret act? ;~) Thank you very much for the offer though, but I'm not sure I can take the mental strain!

Mike, ooo, close, but a little nearer chez Alf. Very near indeed, in fact.

  4. I'm sure there'd be a quiet corner somewhere...

  5. Really?

My first thought was the Newlyn chest but I guess I didn't remember it being so much like the Seaton in outer appearance--but it is.

Good job. I had just gotten a copy of the BS chest book. Guess I am kinda immersed in it at the moment...

    Take care, Mike

  6. Well of course it may well look nothing like the Seaton chest - don't forget the imperfect translator twixt it and SketchUp... And congrats on getting a copy btw; fascinating reading, isn't it? Bet you end up wanting the Christopher Gabriel one when you're done. :)

Nick, aww, all right then. I'll try and remember to stick it on a disc and shoe-horn into a box somewhere!

  7. So then...how close is the Newlyn being to completed?

Yeah, the book is fascinating. The boys are taking great delight in making sure I don't have time to read it, though. Turned into a game of sorts. And yep, the Gabriel one has been on the list but it'll be a while. There's other things which have pushed their way to the top of the list.

    Take care, Mike

  8. Mike!!!!

Where did you find a copy of the BS Chest book? I can't find it anywhere (for the kind of price I'm willing to pay, that is).
